Personalized URLs (PURLs)

PURLs + Landing Pages = Profits

PURLs are custom web pages that feature a specific customer’s name in the URL. These mass‐customized personal websites may be temporary for a single promotion or be part of a long‐term relationship. The personalized content presented to each customer depends on conditions defined in a database. People perceive that the sender is making a substantial effort to share this information with them, and recipients tend to consider this a high‐value communication. Customers typically refer back to their portal repeatedly and don’t want the portal to go away.


A Generalized URL (GURL) is a variation of a PURL. They apply to campaigns where the marketer does not yet know data specifics. 

  • PURLs and GURLs are good ways to collect additional information and key data from your customers or prospects for use in future marketing programs.
  • GURLs are trackable to provide feedback regarding the success of the campaign and also trigger further marketing communication efforts.
