Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much bleed allowance do I need?

A: We recommend .25" bleed allowance.

Q: How much margin allowance do I need?

A: Allow .25" minimum.

Q: When submitting electronic native files for printing, what will I need to include with the files?

A: Besides your native files, we’ll also need any fonts and graphics that you used in the creation of your project.

Q: At what size should I setup my electronic file?

A: If you’re submitting native files, please build them at the trim size listed on your quotation. If you’re submitting PDF files, please add 1" to the height and width dimensions to allow for bleeds and marks. Example: Job trim size is 8.375" x 10.875" — PDF should be built at 9.375" x 11.875".

Q: What do “total ink limit” and “under color removal (UCR)” mean?

A: Total ink limit is the maximum amount of combined ink that a paper stock and print process can produce. UCR is a technique used to reduce the yellow, magenta and cyan dot percentages in neutral tones by replacing them with increased amounts of black ink. Contact us for more details before creating your files.

Q: Do I need to be concerned about my 4-color images’ total ink limit?

A: Yes. If your ink limits are too high, there is a potential that your images could offset onto the next page. Conversely, if your total ink limits are very low, your blacks could potentially lack richness and depth. Contact us for more details before creating your files.

Q: Do I need to be concerned about the color mode in which my images are setup?

A: For optimum quality results, you should be concerned. Black images should be saved in Grayscale mode and 4-color images should be saved in CMYK mode, not RGB. Contact us for more details before creating your files.

Q: Do you have preferred PDF settings I should use when creating my PDFs for print?

A: Yes. Please contact me, Jason Hauman, at customersupport@riponprinters.com or call at 800-321-3136 x312 and I will gladly e-mail the appropriate settings to you.

Q: Can I submit a file for review prior to printing? Is there any cost? How long does it take?

A: We recommend submitting a test file prior to printing. There is no cost for us to review your file. File testing is performed daily but allow up to 3 business days for results during peak demand.

Q: This is my first time printing with Ripon. Is there anyone I can contact with Technical questions?

A: Please feel free to contact me, Jason Hauman, customer education specialist, at 800-321-3136 x312 or send an e-mail message to customersupport@riponprinters.com. I am always happy to answer any questions or walk you through any technical issues related to producing work at Ripon Printers.

Q: What is included in your charge for creating inkjet tapes?

A: A number of key services, including Importing/merging files, CASS certification, USPS PAVE Presort, list output, USPS Standard Documentation, sack/tray/pallet tags and a postage report. Pricing is based upon the number of records imported. Contact us for an estimate.

Q: What is your average quote turnaround time?

A: On average 24-48 hours however, quicker turn times may be possible if necessary.
